Angels in America is about America falling apart and the people affected being abandoned. We see how a group of people were targeted and struggled during the 1980’s Aids crisis in America and how it divided a nation. We created a world of authority and structure that was neglected and crumbling down. The divided nation left cold and abandoned.
The design team wanted the space to have a cold, vulnerable, larger than life feel to mimic the emotions of the play a government structure feel. I achieve this by looking at architecture in New York City from that time period and that resembled governmental buildings, justice. The distress architecture mirrored the crumbling of America. I paid very close attention to texture to make the space feel cold. The tall columns elongated the space to make the space feel large.
